In order to provide an opportunity for students to learn the concept of evolution an evolutionary unit of study was developed. It was designed to provide a hands on learning experience that would assist them in understanding the theory of evolution and the several lines of evidence that support it. By providing several laboratory experiences, simulations, and models students were able to gain an appreciation of the nature of science and an increased understanding of evolution. By utilizing humans as an example the theory of evolution was directly applicable to the students. The students worked in small and large groups, as well as individually, in order to collect and analyze their data.
